Object Obscure is a music project/band fronted by Alexandrian musician and sound engineer Samir Nabil. His music is guitar-based, utilizing live looping and other sound layering and manipulating techniques, using various guitar effect pedals, while maintaining a strong melodic content. Nabil started his music career by composing Indie music and pop and moved on to instrumental. In addition to the tracks he publishes on his soundcloud, Nabil occasionally performs live, particularly his project ‘Set of Experiences’, where he plays in sync with selected videos by Alexandrian filmmakers Islam Kamal, Emad Maher, Abdallah Sharkas and Ikon.
Nabil has long worked in the vibrant underground film scene in Alexandria, composing the scores of many films, including Ayten Amer’s ‘Villa 69’, Emad Maher’s ‘Zakaria’ and ‘Local Copy’ by Islam Kamal. He also undertakes sound design, audio editing and mixing work, as well as recording for local bands and musicians in his studio.
For this video feature, Medrar.TV invited musician and critic Rami Abadir to jam with Nabil before sitting down for a discussion of Nabil’s work.
